Starting to Explore

When in a safe environment, dice are only used as needed.  Instead the focus is on shared storytelling between player and GM.  In  Hostile Environment Exploration more rules are used to track the impacts of the environment on the characters.  

In a hostile an environment the players at the end of each round roll the Opportunity Die.  On a failure, their space suit starts to give out, and they will risk taking damage every round until they get to safety.  As the rounds go on, the Opportunity Die gets smaller and smaller.  Players will need to weigh risk vs reward decisions. 

 

Create a Character

 

On Your Turn

On your turn you will go through the three steps to the right.

At the top of the round the GM will roll to see if impacts get worse in specific spaces (called elevated impact).  At the bottom of the round opportunity will decrease by one.

Roll to Endure Impacts

Each environment has impacts.  These will often be resisted by rolling under current stamina plus a bonus from your class.  There are three types of Resists – Disease, Elements, and Pests.   Agility is often used to dodge also.

 

Move up to Your Speed

Depending on your pet type you will be able to move 2, 3 or 4 spaces.  

 

Take an Action

There is a chart of common actions players can take and the stat they need to test (roll under) in order to succeed.  

Evidence Collection

In an evidence based scene players want to collect as much evidence points  as they can before time runs out.  

In this kind of your scenario use your movement to get to points of interest and use the investigate action or use technology action to find evidence points.

You may also find evidence points my taming alien lifeforms.  As a side goal you may find resource deposits that allow you to raise your resource currency pools.  

 

 

Alien Pets

Prime Matter

In a longer campaign players can quest to get greater and greater alchemical knowledge.  There are Five Basic Resources

  • Arcane Algae
  • Molten Minerals
  • Odd Ore
  • Strange Sap
  • Helpful Herbs

These can be used to get access to elite currencies: Medical Elixir, Mithril and Mutagen with the help of alien pets.  Eventually players may be able to unlock the Prime Matter – infinite potentiality itself.
